The Young Lawyers Division of the DeKalb Bar Association is comprised of attorneys age
forty and younger who live and/or work in DeKalb County. The Young Lawyers Division was
developed in 2006 as a way for DeKalb attorneys who are new to the practice of law to
give back to the community, while getting to know each other.
The DeKalb YLD participates
in at least one charitable event each year, in addition to assisting with Law Day. This
year, the DeKalb YLD is partnering with the State YLD to host “Casino Night” on January 11,
2008, where the charitable recipient is H.E.R.O. for Children, a charity dedicated to
raising funds to service children affected by HIV and AIDS.

In addition to helping the community, DeKalb YLD offers its members opportunities to gather in
social settings at least four times a year. As it is important for members to have an opportunity
to meet other new attorneys in the metro area, we are associating with other metro YLD’s in order
to offer a more diverse social arena. Furthermore, the DeKalb Bar Association is extremely
supportive of the YLD and several of the more seasoned members, along with several of the sitting
judges, attend the social events. This makes for a very open and social atmosphere among DeKalb
lawyers, an environment that is not easy to find.
The Young Lawyers Division of the DeKalb
Bar Association is actively looking for new members in order to better serve our community and to
establish the strong roots at the local level. Getting involved with the DeKalb YLD is
very rewarding and can be used as a stepping stone to leadership positions locally and statewide.
